Library Department

 

VISION OF THE LIBRARY

The objective of the college library is derived from those of its parent institution, Best Legacy College of Education, Ogbomoso. It exists to provide books, non-book/electronic resources and ancillary services which are invaluable in extending and supporting the educational activities, as well as teaching, learning and Research.

 

This library consists of the following departments.

The Technical Services Department

This division has the responsibility of developing the stock of the Medical library. The section compiles material requests as they come from departments and acquire all needed reading materials. Book decoration and binding is done here to ensure that all materials are in durable condition. The serials unit, the gift and exchange unit are under this department. The Digital unit is in charge of the configuration and the maintenance of the library management software-Virtual; library local area network (LAN), website and the general maintenance of the ICT infrastructure in the library. The library computer and ICT literacy training is handled by this unit. The unit is also the link between the library and the university ICTC which is the library’s gateway to the Internet and the university intranet.

The Readers Services Department

Readers’ Services Department houses information resources and services that support the teaching, learning, medical and research activities of the hospital. It is responsible for stimulating and supporting the delivery of information resources to the users. This division comprises the following units: Circulation, Reference and Thesis/Dissertation.

Circulation unit: comprising of the circulation desk located at the open floor of the library and the rare room. The unit has the responsibilities of receiving processed resources from the Information for shelving, charging and discharging to library users. It is also responsible for the opening and closing of the library including library security. It is the gate way into the library as the main entrance and exit doors are located here.

The Reference unit: This unit contains both medical and managerial reference materials including encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, atlases etc, as well as works of reference which cut across many subject areas in the field of medicine. Reference materials related to individual subjects are shelved in the subject areas and bear for “Reference only, not to be taken out of the Library”. Books so marked and in the Reference collection are not available for loan and can rarely be taken out of the library.unit has the responsibilities of receiving processed resources from the Information for shelving, charging and discharging to library users.
